that has definitely made this style a reality in our game. A drawing pixel art style, full of details, with a vivid colour palette and a resolution of 320x200px, is a true tribute to the adventures mentioned above. And not only that, besides, we’ve managed to develop a mixed battle system between the above-mentioned games, as The Adventures of The Black Hawk will have a sword fighting system like in Monkey Island, controlled like the Indiana Jones and Last Crusade ballasts.
The book by Alejandro Dumas entitled The Black Tulip published in 1850 and set in the Netherlands (hence the chosen flower) is a direct source from which our script emanates. The brothers De Witt, protected of King Louis of France, will find death at the hands of the mad people of The Hague, who believe them guilty of a conspiracy. But before he dies, his godson Cornelius will be left with compromising documents that will take him to prison, where, in the company of young Rosa, he will strive to achieve what he desires most in the world: the bulb of the black tulip. In this way it has served as an influence for the setting and recreation of the customs of the end of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth, as well as to capture the spirit of the characters of the time.
But if our script is based on anything, it’s definitely the movie called The Black Tulip. It is a French production from the 50s that narrates the adventures of a character similar to the Zorro, in a villa in the south of France and which also leads a double life: on the one hand it turns out to be an important and well-placed aristocrat while on the other it hides behind its mask to steal from the rich and distribute the wealth among the peasant class taking advantage of the information that its noble class makes it obtain. Our adventure is based mainly on your story, locations and your characters in this film The Black Tulip is a source of inspiration from which we have departed when developing our game. Although the film is only a starting point of inspiration, as we mentioned, since the characters have a totally different personality with comic, ironic and unhappy tints full of humour, again mentioning the LucasArts games as the main sources of inspiration in this regard.
